So as you may have noticed, my blog is sneaking in as posted under the date may 7th with only a few minutes to spare…but not for lack of trying! As soon as I got the assignment I knew that it was going to be a tough one. Not that I don’t enjoy writing, but I knew it was going to be something that required thought, and emotion, two rarities in this world.

I had a couple ideas, but nothing solid. I thought a lot about something I could write that would not only be close to my heart, but something you could all relate to…I had nothing! I was getting a little frustrated to say the least, but today as I was eating breakfast out with two friends and venting a little about the situation, something happened.

We where finishing our meal when the table next to us, consisting of a father and his two young children got theirs. I wouldn’t usually have paid much attention, but as the waitress walked away, all three of them bowed their heads as the young boy, about 2 years old, said grace. It was nothing extravagant, and at points more like random mumbles and slurs than words, but beautiful!

With the violence, and hate, and filth of this world, even as a Christian it is sometimes hard to stay focussed on what is true and what it important in our lives. Getting wrapped up in the gossip, and competitiveness’ that surrounds us is all to easy. I have often said, as I’m sure a few of you have also, that I miss the days when everything was black and white, when bowing our head before God was as simple as that, not clouded by when the next party is, or what people will think of us. However, the implied challenge that lays in the last sentence is far easier to write in this blog, than it is to apply to real life. As I watched the family I caught a glimpse of God, a glimpse that put a much needed hopefulness in my heart, and a definite smile on my face!

Although I forget more often than not, the rare examples of venerability and true emotion in this world are what we need more of than anything. And I believe that what draws many people to children is just that, they have not yet been blemished by this world. And everyday they take a run at life with passion and un-stoppable intensity!

So, to complete the title of this blogging assignment, what I believe in is innocence. Not naivety, but the kind of innocence that is seen when a child pauses in front of the food that has been set before him, bows his head, folds his hands, and thanks the Lord in the best way he can, showing us all what I believe to be the closest image of what God intended us to be. I believe in Gods reminders, encouragements, and powerfully random events.

I believe in INNOCENCE!
